HOW TO GET THAT FLAWLESS SKIN

Sometimes I wonder if it is possible for someone (an African person) to have flawless skin to flaunt without makeup or photo effects ( Hello Snap-chat filter). The truth is, beautiful skin is possible for women of color, but it requires effort, consistency, time and money. In plain terms, you have to work for your skin, if you want it to work for you.

Sadly, some people seem to do a lot and still end up with acne, hyper-pigmentation, breakouts and dull skin tone. Which brings us to the question,

What could you be doing wrong?

First off, if you are actually trying and it doesn’t seem to be working, don’t panic. There are a couple of reasons why your face and body is not looking like what you want it to. You just have to wait to find out which one applies to you.

You don’t moisturize

Have you ever held a dry orange or grapefruit in your hands? No one needs to tell you it’s dry because of the way it looks and feels. The same thing applies to the human skin. When your skin is dry, you lose that bright color that comes with a moisturized skin. Your skin becomes sallow, dry and itchy. Drinking water is not juts enough to restore your glow, there are other ways to fill your skin cells with water and locking it in.

Eat lots of fruits that have been known to contain up to 90%of water or more. Fruits like watermelon, cucumber, oranges and papaya should be part of your meals daily. Also, you need to thinks of ways to lock in the moisture. This is why you need to invest in good moisturizers. They keep your skin hydrated and prevents moisture loss.

You don’t know your skin type

We may all be women of color, but our skin definitely differs. It works for your friend, sister or neighbor does not mean it will work for you. Know the type of skin you have and then you can find out ways to help it. Your skin may either be dry, oily, normal or a combination of dry and oily. If you have an oily skin, do not make the mistake of using products meant for someone with a normal skin. There are bound to be reactions from it.

You spend too much time in the sun

In this part of the world, exposure to the sun is inevitable. Even in our homes, we are still exposed to the sun. However, you can limit the effects of sunlight on your skin. Being in the sun for so long can have devastating effects on you. Sun burn and skin cancer may seem like a far cry, but it only takes a buildup of sun exposure for it to happen. While you cannot avoid the days when you will have to go out in the sun, you can protect your skin even when you are out. For daily outdoor activities, a skin product of SPF 30 – 45 is ideal. While staying home, you can use a product of lower SPF. SPF 25 is perfect for indoor stay and skin protection.

You constantly touch your face

Of all the parts of the body, the hands are undeniably the dirtiest. We pick up dirt every time we touch things, surfaces and even our phones. You may not know, but whenever you touch your face, you transfer these germs onto them. How are those products of your supposed to work when you just won’t keep your hands away from your face. Make it a habit to keep your hands to yourself and away from your face. Then you might juts be on your way to having a healthy and beautiful skin.
