EXFOLIATION: HOW IMPORTANT IS

Our skin is what makes us different and similar to each other. It does not matter if we are light-skinned, caramel complexioned or even dark-skinned. What matters is that our skin is what gives us our image. Do you know that skin cells die daily, and new ones are produced by the body system to replace them on a daily basis? How well do you know about exfoliation and its benefits?

Exfoliation in simple terms is the removal of the dead skin cells on the surface of the skin. It can be either by chemical means or by mechanical means. Exfoliation may seem like such a huge thing that dermatologists, skin care specialists or even internet influencers talk about, but it is just a simple procedure to keep your skin glowing. The beautiful thing about exfoliation is that even animals do it. Snakes and all kinds of reptiles exfoliate to get rid of dead skin cells. Now, what happens when you don’t exfoliate?

It’s simple. Not exfoliating means not getting rid of these dead cells, and not only does these make you look dull, they can ruin your skin for you.

Number one, not exfoliating or not removing these dead skin cells can clog your pores. That’s why you end up having blackheads and whiteheads. Additionally, when you do not exfoliate your skin, these dead cells continue to pile up your skin surface, making it difficult for oil and sweat to be released.

Secondly, when you fail to exfoliate, then be prepared to spend much more money on skincare. Even when you do, little to no effect will be seen. Basically this means that the clogged pores will be unable to take in skincare products and moisturizers to give you your glow.

Finally, this may seem odd, but exfoliating has a role to play in blood circulation in the body. Clogged or blocked pores will certainly do you no good in any way. When you exfoliate, you open up your pore spaces to fresh air, which in turn plays a role in improving circulation.

KNOW WHEN TO STOP EXFOLIATING

Exfoliation is not something you do on a daily basis. At least 2 – 3 times weekly is ideal. However, you should also pay attention to the type of skin you have before you proceed with either chemical exfoliation or mechanical exfoliation involving the use of exfoliating sponges, scrubs, brushes, masks and gloves.

Even when you are on track in your exfoliating game, you should be able to know when to stop. When you begin to notice signs like your skin being inflamed, irritated, or turns red after exfoliating, then you should stop. You can see a dermatologist to find out what the problem could be, especially if it has never happened before. On the other hand, if it happens on your first exfoliation, then stop and change your method.
